The Buyer agrees to the following:

Home       About Us     Males       Females       Kittens       Plans      Email

Buyer will keep this cat as long as he or she lives unless unforeseen circumstances prevent this.  Buyer will make provisions (both written and oral) for the care and ownership of this cat should the Buyer become incapacitated or in the case of decease.  If it becomes necessary for the Buyer to give up this cat, Buyer will contact the Breeder who has the first option to take back the cat at no charge or to assist in finding another home for the cat.  Under no circumstances will this cat EVER be put into an animal shelter or humane society.

Buyer is not buying this cat for resale nor will the Buyer ever DECLAW this cat.

Buyer will not allow this cat to run loose outdoors.  Buyer understands that they are buying an indoor-only pedigreed cat and they will not allow this cat outdoors except in a carrier, on a lead or leash or in a fully enclosed outdoor run for their cat’s protection, safety and well-being.

Buyer will not breed this cat.  The Breeder will withhold the kitten’s registration papers and pedigree until proof of alteration is provided. In most cases this cat/kitten should be neutered or spayed at six months of age.

Buyer will provide a cat tree or other climbing device, preferably with sisal rope for scratching.  Buyer will not leave this cat alone for more than 24 hours without making arrangement for a responsible person to provide fresh food, clean water and clean litter daily.  Buyer will keep this cat free of external and internal parasites such as fleas and worms.  Buyer will groom this cat weekly with a comb and bathe the cat as needed.  Buyer should, if treating for fleas, use a topical solution such as Advantage or use a company like Fleabusters.  Buyer should not EVER flea dip a cat, as cats are very sensitive to these chemicals.

Buyer will have this cat immunized annually for the feline upper respiratory illnesses (rhinotracheitis, panleukopenia pneumonitis and calici virus).  Buyer agrees to have the cat examined annually by a licensed veterinarian to ensure the cat’s health and well being.  Breeder does not recommend vaccinating the kitten/cat for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) or Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP).  If the Buyer opts to vaccinate their cat with these vaccines and if the cat should subsequently develop FIP, the Breeder will not replace the kitten.  The reason for this the Breeder feels that, based on a study done at UC Davis, that these vaccines may cause FIP development.  Additionally and if possible, if and when Buyer is vaccinating the cat for rabies, Buyer should request that the veterinarian use the rabies vaccine with the least reactionary adjuvant to further decrease the possibility of a vaccine site sarcoma.

Buyer will be alert for signs of illness in this cat, will consult their veterinarian and will not deny their cat any necessary care.  Buyer will do everything possible to provide excellent care for this cat and provide a loving, safe and stress-free environment for this cat – respecting its own unique personality and needs.

The Breeder guarantees that this cat or kitten is negative for FeLV and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV or Feline AIDS) at the time of sale.  Breeder requires that the Buyer have their cat or kitten examined by a licensed veterinarian within 48 hours of purchase date.

The Breeder guarantees that this cat or kitten is healthy at the time of sale unless an ongoing medical condition is present and disclosed at the time of sale.  If such a condition is disclosed and the Buyer elects to take the cat or kitten while said condition is present, no further health guarantee is provided and the Breeder will accept no liability.

Should any undisclosed medical conditions be discovered within the first seven days of ownership or during the kitten’s initial medical exam, the Breeder requests immediate notification.  The Buyer has the option of returning the cat for any reason to the Breeder within seven days of purchase date for a refund of the purchase price paid.  Buyer will pay all transportation costs for the return of the kitten.  The Breeder will not be liable for any medical costs associated with the cat or kitten that the Buyer incurred.  Should the Buyer elect to keep the cat or kitten in lieu of returning the cat for a refund, the Buyer retains all liability for the medical costs of treating the condition.

The Buyer should be aware that kittens often, during times of stress such as going to a new home, will exhibit temporary signs of illness including but not limited to sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, diarrhea or constipation.  Shipping by air or long car rides may also be stressful, especially if dry forced air circulation or excessive heat are involved.  These effects can be minimized by feeding identical food as served by the Breeder, offering bottled or filtered water and by taking steps to reduce stress while introducing the kitten to the Buyer’s home and other pets.  See Breeder’s “Cat Care Handout” for further details.  These symptoms are usually temporary and should go away within a few days if the kitten is not further stressed. The total liability of the Breeder will not exceed the purchase price of the kitten.

The Maine Coon Cat is a very sociable animal and suffers from a lack of attention.  Buyer promises to provide frequent, kind and loving attention.  Breeder would enjoy receiving a December holiday card with photos of the kitten/cat every so often in order to track the kitten’s development.  Breeder is available to the Buyer for any questions at any time.
